Latest Atlantic Salmon count
The trap count is now 1,894. The run has slowed down this past week. We have been seeing 1 - 6 salmon per day over the last five days. Water temperatures were holding around 20 C (68 F) last week, but has been climbing. This afternoon’s water temperature was 22.4 C (72.5 F). Flows at West Enfield have been around 10,000 cfs for the past four days. About 3,000 cfs above the long-term median.
I have a included bonus figure this week, at no additional charge, that show the daily salmon counts for 2009 along with water temperature (measure each morning) and estimated flows at Veazie.
As of July 5th, the grilse (1 sea-winter) were 5% of the run compared to 30% last year. I will update those numbers in August once the data has been entered. Over the last week, the grilse have been about 30% of our catch.
Look for the next update in a couple of weeks.
