The Atlantic salmon count for the Penobcot River is now 1,928 at the Veazie trap. Since my last update on July 20, we have handled 34 new salmon (an average of 2/day, largest daily count was 7, days of 0 new salmon = 4). Water temperature has remained low, averaging 22.3 C (72.1 F). Since 2002, the typical water temperature for this time of year has been 24.2 C (75.6 F). We have had only 2 day over 23 C (73.0 F) this season. Flow continues to remain high. Normal discharge at West Enfield (USGS Gage 01034500) is about 6,000 cfs. Since July 20, discharge increased from 10,000 to 30,000 cfs and today it is around 22,000 cfs.

Look for my next update in a few weeks.
