The Atlantic salmon trap on the Penobscot River at Veazie was close on Oct 30. The final tally for the season was 1,958 (rank = 13th). The last salmon was trapped on Oct 14. Since water temperatures peaked in late July, only 91 new salmon were handled at the trap (See the inset figure; notice the slope of the 2009 line is near level after 1-Aug). The median run date was June 18 and the largest single day was June 28 when we handled 95 new salmon. Some people have requested more information on the run by sea-age, sex, and origin. I will email that information in early January, once our scale analysis is completed and our data has been reviewed. Thanks for your interest in Atlantic salmon and the Penobscot River.

No Sports Allowed Vol.1
I was recently sent a copy of No Sports Allowed. I had never heard of this film or the guys producing this film, so I had no expectations, unlike my expectations on some of the bigger names putting out fly fishing films. One thing I have seen is, if you want to get anyone’s attention you need to put something out there that is different, or do it better than anyone one else.
No Sports Allowed shows you what some guides in Idaho like to do on their day off, hang out with friends and fish. This film is smack full of fish porn, good music and camaraderie of friends and family enjoying what they love best, fly fishing.
I really enjoyed how they took you on each adventure with them and made you feel like you were part of the adventure. The characters along with all the fish footage really ties this film together. The places they could get those skiffs into really made me want to get one and try some adventures of my own.
This was a fun film to watch and I will be sharing it with my buddies. If you want to pick a copy up for yourself you can get them at No Sports Allowed.
As I always tell people it isn’t always about the fish, sometimes it is about the journey there or in this case the trip home.
I spent the last two days guiding Chesley around Maine. We fished a couple different rivers and hit some of the local antique shops in the areas and even ended the final day tasting beer and wine at the Winterport Winery.
Chesley was able to land nine salmon and one brookie at the first river on nymph and streamers. On the second river he was able to get a nice fat brown on a dry.
