Final tally for 2009, Atlantic salmon
Journal Date: November 19th, 2009 | Filed Under: News
The Atlantic salmon trap on the Penobscot River at Veazie was close on Oct 30. The final tally for the season was 1,958 (rank = 13th). The last salmon was trapped on Oct 14. Since water temperatures peaked in late July, only 91 new salmon were handled at the trap (See the inset figure; notice the slope of the 2009 line is near level after 1-Aug). The median run date was June 18 and the largest single day was June 28 when we handled 95 new salmon. Some people have requested more information on the run by sea-age, sex, and origin. I will email that information in early January, once our scale analysis is completed and our data has been reviewed. Thanks for your interest in Atlantic salmon and the Penobscot River.
